The existing Beatrice Tate School will be relocated from St Jude’s Road to the proposed site at Southern Grove. It will comprise an SEN School for approximately 75 pupils aged between 11 and 19.
The building proposed is partially two and partially three storeys in height, with the taller element located towards Southern Grove, and approximately 3,000sq.m (GIA).
The existing resource centre will be demolished. The main body of Southern Grove Lodge, an unlisted former workhouse lies outside the site adjacent to its northern boundary. However, it proposes to demolish a single-storey extension of the Lodge which lies within the site.
External play areas will be situated to the east of the main school buildings (to the rear) and will include a hard play area, outdoor play area, sensory garden, quiet garden and horticulture area.
All pupils will arrive at the school via mini-buses. A drop-off area is proposed to the front of the School where pupil drop-offs and pick-ups will take place at the beginning and end of each day. A process, which will be managed by the School.
A separate service access is proposed to the southern part of the site. Car parking for four cars (including two disabled parking bays) and two motorcycle parking spaces are proposed at the rear of the site. Access would be obtained via the northern access point on Southern Grove. Cycle parking for staff bicycles is also proposed. Servicing will occur via the southern access point, from Southern Grove.
The main pedestrian site entrance would be located in the centre of the site providing direct access to the main entrance.
The potential for some community use of the hydrotherapy pool and activity studio out of school hours is being explored.
