Handover of Broomfield Hospital
Broomfield Hospital was handed over officially in August 2010.
The project comprises a new 43,000m² acute building, complete with infrastructure and landscaping and associated parking provisions, and connects to the existing facility via a dramatic new main entrance and atrium corridor. The new facilities are truly impressive, and provide a wealth of hospital services in outstanding accommodation.
Main elements include:
- in excess of 300 beds
- five day case operating theatres, and three endoscopy rooms
- A&E department
- maternity department with two operating theatres
- neonatal intensive care unit
- new pharmacy and dispensary
- new renal unit
- rooftop helipad
Bouygues UK and its partners – Ecovert FM and HSBC – began their involvement with the project in 2003, gaining preferred bidder status in March 2004. Financial close was achieved at the end of 2007, and construction work began immediately. By developing strong relationships with all partners involved, Bouygues UK achieved structural completion within 16 months (May 2009). Official handover to the client took place in August 2010, just 32 months after construction began.
Community and staff engagement featured heavily throughout the construction process; regular residents meetings were held, staff were given the opportunity to use ‘mock’ wards in order to familiarise themselves with the new building, as well as their say in the choice of materials and fit-out of their new workplace.
