Tower Hamlets BSF

East End education is set for a multi-million pound transformation, after Tower Hamlets Council and Bouygues UK agreed a partnership in January 2009 that will see all of the borough’s secondary schools either rebuilt or refurbished.

Bouygues UK has been selected as the private sector partner to deliver Tower Hamlets’ £230m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme - the biggest ever school improvement programme in the borough.

St Paul’s Way Community School and Bethnal Green Technology College are the first two schools to benefit from the scheme. St Paul’s Way, which houses 1200 students, is currently undergoing a £53 million rebuild and at Bethnal Green Technology College, a £17 million part new build and part refurbishment programme is well underway for the school’s 900 students.

The proposed development for Sir John Cass School will be a part new build and part refurbishment of the existing school estimated at £17.1 million. The school will house approximately 900-1200 students. Morpeth secondary school is currently undergoing a £22 million new build designated for 1200 students.  Finally, Oaklands School will be a new build and refurbishment project which will hold 660 students and is estimated at £13.6 million.
